Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi
Embarrassment of Riches
Opening: February 28, 2026, 6 pm
For her solo exhibition in Glarus, Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi (b.1995 in Ghazni, living and working in Basel and Sarnen) has produced a set of 50 collages. Condensed into a series, the project generates a distinctly personal iconography – flowers, truck collector cards, drawings, plastic packaging, the artist’s own signature, and again and again also an intimated horizon.
The project uses sheets from a dummy book block from the publication by another artist that dictates the format and number of collages. Sometimes the visual space is full of objects, sometimes a sheet is loosely painted with silver colour. Every day a collage, and then the next. The work evolves from progressively appropriating the format and the individual visual imagery, reinterpreting formal hierarchies and cloaking it with a personal rationale.
As such the title, Embarrassment of Riches, also implies a double gesture. The visual spaces alternately condense themselves or remain almost empty, leaving it open precisely whose richness is on show here, and whose embarrassment.
The exhibition was initiated by Melanie Ohnemus and is curated by Ann-Kathrin Eickhoff.
