Throwing Snow into a Circle
The exhibition takes a work by Richard Long as an associative point of departure. In the 1990s, the English artist created his first work of Land Art in Klöntal: Throwing Snow into a Circle (1991) documents an ephemeral sculpture made of snow at the foot of the Glärnisch Massif. Artists explore the topography and psychogeography of Glarus, using nature as their material or inserting their work into the barren mountain landscape. Mythical nature exerts an influence on artistic creation and forms a breeding ground for artistic and social “experiments.” The exhibition addresses this legacy and brings together works by Glarner artists, some created specifically for the exhibition, with works from the collection of the Glarner Kunstverein.
Throwing Snow into a Circle is part of a biennial series of exhibitions focusing on artistic practices in the region of Glarus.
